03/01: Sexual Advertisements
I find this whole "how dare you check me out!" thing that women do to be wildly hypocritical. If you really don't expect men to look at you, then why in the name of all things logical are you dressing like that?
Let's be reasonable here. Men and women were put on this earth to make more men and women. It's built into our DNA as a survival of the species thing. If you're going to take your assets and put them on display, we men are going to look. Telling us to do otherwise is not only hopeless and futile, but it's also really rather stupid. If you don't want us to eat the donuts, then please don't wave big heaping plates of them in our face.
Here's an example. There has been this recent trend of putting words on the ass of women's shorts and sweatpants. Here's a tip... words are for reading... if you print something on your ass, I'm going to stare at your ass and read it. Now those of you wearing these things... do you really think for even a moment that men (and women, for that matter) are not going to read your ass? You do realize that reading your ass requires our actually looking at your ass, right? I assume that had to be clear to you when you purchased the item. Right?
The other day I saw a rather extreme case of this. Now most people who put eye-attracting-ass-signs on tend to have "fairly innocent" words such as the name of their school or "Sport" or some such. (Granted, I translate "Sport" into "not only do I have an ass, but it's fairly tight") This one ass-sign I saw, however, was totally over the top. It said, simply, "JUICY".
Yes, ok... so, really... come on... do I even really need to comment beyond that? I think not.
So here's the thing. Let's just all agree that ass-signs, plunging necklines, short skirts, big slits up the side of your skirt, tight jeans, etc. are all just big advertisements for sex. Perhaps you don't want to have sex with everyone who is interested in your advertisement, but getting mad at them for looking is about as sensible as getting mad at someone for checking out your billboard.
In fact, when you think about it, perhaps you're advertising improperly. After all, marketers spend a lot of time trying to make sure their message gets to the right audience. If you find you are getting the wrong response, perhaps you should consider a different approach.
You could take it a whole step further and make a career out of effective T&A marketing.
Regardless of your future sex-related career choices, however, at least for now either cover up that cleavage or stop getting annoyed at us when we're examining your wares.
